Anju Bobby George, born on 19 April 1977, is a retired Indian athlete. She made history by winning a bronze medal in the long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, becoming the first Indian to do so. In 2005, she won gold at the IAAF World Athletics Final after her competitor was disqualified. Anju received the Arjuna Award in 2002, Khel Ratna in 2003, and Padma Shri in 2004. She finished 5th at the 2004 Athens Olympics with a jump of 6.83 metres. In 2021, she won the BBC lifetime achievement award. She is now vice-president of the Athletics Federation of India.
