Laxman was part of the Indian team that won the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy jointly with Sri Lanka. He is admired for his skillful stroke play and fast scoring, despite being a slow runner. In domestic cricket, he played for Hyderabad and Lancashire, and he captained Deccan Chargers in the IPL. Laxman is now Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2011. He retired from cricket in 2012.
