Career

Pragyan Ojha began his cricket journey at the age of 10, participating in a summer camp at Saheed Sporting Club in Bhubaneswar. He played for the club in junior tournaments before moving to Hyderabad, where he pursued cricket under coach T. Vijay Paul. Ojha made his first-class debut in the 2004/05 season and excelled in the 2006-07 Ranji Trophy, taking 29 wickets at an average of 19.89.

He made his international debut for India in One Day Internationals against Bangladesh on 28 June 2008 and played his first Test match on 24 November 2009 against Sri Lanka. Ojha was notable for taking five wickets in his second Test and became the 800th Test victim of Muttiah Muralitharan. In T20 cricket, he made an impressive debut against Bangladesh, earning the Man of the Match award.

Ojha had a successful career in the Indian Premier League (IPL), earning the Purple Cap in IPL 3 and being part of three championship-winning teams. He played for the Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians, and also represented Surrey in the County Championship. After facing a suspension due to an illegal bowling action, he returned to the game and continued playing until his retirement announcement on 21 February 2020. Throughout his international career, he played 48 matches for India, including Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell Test in 2013, where he was named Man of the Match.
