India will face Pakistan on October 6, three days after the tournament kicks off with an opener between Bangladesh and Scotland, as the ICC revealed a revised schedule for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. India will begin their campaign against New Zealand on October 4. Originally set to be held in Bangladesh, the Women’s T20 World Cup was relocated by the ICC due to concerns over security stemming from the ongoing political unrest in the country.
Ten teams will compete in 23 matches over 18 days of thrilling action at two venues in the UAE: the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Group A features six-time champions Australia, along with India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Group B includes Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and Scotland. Each team will play four group matches at the two venues.
The tournament will commence with Bangladesh taking on Scotland in Sharjah, followed by Pakistan facing off against Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka. South Africa, runners-up in 2023, will open their T20 World Cup campaign against the West Indies on October 4 in Dubai.
Defending champions Australia, the most successful team in T20 World Cup history, will start their campaign on October 5 in Sharjah against Sri Lanka. The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for October 6 in Dubai.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals, where they will face the second-placed team from the opposite group. Semi-final 1 is set for October 17 in Dubai, and Semi-final 2 will take place on October 18 in Sharjah. Should India progress, they will compete in Semi-final 1. Both the semi-finals and the final have reserve days allocated.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup champion will be crowned on October 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Scotland and Sri Lanka secured their spots in the tournament through the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier held earlier this year in Abu Dhabi.
Ten warm-up matches will be held at the Sevens Stadium and the ICC Academy grounds in Dubai from September 28 to October 1, building up excitement for the tournament.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) retains its hosting rights while partnering with the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) to ensure the event’s successful execution.
